17TH CATHCART OPEN 2003

July 28 - Aug 25

Grading Data

While this was the 17th Cathcart Open it had added significance as it took place at the end of the club's 50th Anniversary year. As usual it could not have gone so smoothly without the use of Merrylea Parish Church hall and the canteen run by Liz Maxwell.

50 (yes 50!) players competed and it was the closest fought tournament for years that ended in a 6-way tie with Jim Doyle winning tenure of the Alan J Shaw Memorial Shield for the second time on tie-break. The most surprising of the tied players was Mike Hanley with a last round victory over club mate Steven Tweedie.
