Open

1. Jacob Aagaard (5.5)

2. Steve Mannion (5)

3= Alan Tate, Ed Perry (4.5)

Grading: John Calder, Nigel Chapman, Matthew O'Donnell, Connor Woods (3).

Prize fund (£100, 50, 25, 20(grading)]

The crucial game was Aagaard vs Mannion in Round 5, won by Jacob. Jacob's last round draw against Ed Perry was sufficient to give him outright first place, and a share of third place to the latter. (23 players).

Major

1. Rudolf Austin (5)

2= Iain S Campbell, Andy MacQueen, John McBride (4.5)

Grading: Michael Boyd (4)

Prize fund (£80, 40, 20, 15(grading)]

Rudolf was assured of outright first place by the end of the fifth round. His loss to top seed, John McBride, in the last round moved the latter into the prize list. Junior Michael Boyd was awarded the grading prize ahead of two higher-graded players on the same score: Hugh Flockhart and Keith Aitchison. (34 players)

Minor

1= Jim Johnston, Joe McGreechin, Joe Weir (5)

Grading: Alice Lampard (3.5)

Prize fund (£80, 40, 20, 15(grading)]

Jim Johnston led from the start, but a last round loss to junior Joe McGreechin allowed the latter to join him and Joe Weir (who also scored a win in the last round) in joint first place. Young Alice Lampard's play was immensely impressive, winning games against some tough opposition. She was awarded the grading prize ahead of higher-rated Chris King on the same score. (30 players).

Many thanks to Lara Barnes, Sam Collins & Alex McFarlane.
