9.30am

Day two of matches & an exciting one too with the results from the morning matches in the Glorney & Faber deciding the semi finals pairings for the afternoon matches.

U11 Championships have their second & last day with four rounds taking place today.

U12 & U14 play their second matches against each country with opposite colours – a busy day ahead.

Past my bedtime

Well it was a busy day – thank goodness for Hilary Clark & Lisa McLellan who not only keep me sane & the cups of tea coming but worked like Trojans making sure everyone else was fed & watered & running errands – THANKYOU

Peter & Anne Woods came along today with their bookstall -

One of our valued sponsors don’t forget to see their website to place your orders www.chesssuppliers.co.uk

See the results page for the days results – I can assure you there were nail biting times.

U11 was completed & trophies awarded by the section sponsors & the winner was Fergus Skillen (Lothians) scoring an impressive 7.5 /8.  2nd was Robert Childs (Hamilton) 5.5 /8 & 3rd Alexander Bond (Lanark) 5.5 /8. (tiebreak was decided by the individual game Robert & Alexander played during the event which Robert won.

Finals day tomorrow in the Glorney & Faber with England v Ireland in the Glorney fighting for 1st place.  Scotland play Wales to determine 3rd & 4th places.  Faber (Jessie Gilbert Cup) Scotland v England for 1st place with Wales & Ireland playing for 3rd & 4th places.

Tonight we had fun prize bingo with lots of prizes including the two top prizes a remote control helicopter & hovercraft.  David Wells from Wales won the Helicopter & Ian McDonald won the Hovercraft – well done everyone.

Wednesday 22nd July

Well a very busy day but a very rewarding one too.  Shame some of the results hadn't gone Scotland’s way.  The visiting Nations, our juniors, parents & our arbiting/coach team have been a pleasure to be in the company of today - great atmosphere.

Glorney & Faber started at 9.30 am & at 10am the U14, U12 & U11 kicked off.  (we are running a separate U11 individual to give the up & coming youngsters International event experience - this event is kindly sponsored by Chess Suppliers).

Four rounds were completed in the U11 event today & the intention is for four more tomorrow.  What a great bunch of children, 4 Irish & 10 Scottish juniors, who did not have one dispute, no missing results, great attitude & behaviour. Fergus Skillen on 3½ is the overnight leader & plays Robert Childs on 3 in the morning

My main job this morning was to make sure the drinks & snacks were in place for the hungry hoardes mid morning.  Lets face it most chess players are hungry by 10.30am irrespective of how big the fry up was they had for breakfast.  In the case of juniors they seem to have an ability to graze like sheep all day.  Well the little lambs managed to polish off half a boot full.

.....and then lunch arrived.

Talking of food – Juniors have to have consent forms completed to attend these events & part of it is for dietary requirements & to quote the best two …………..

Dietary requirements

FOOD – lots of it

Dietary requirements

will eat anything with the exception of sheep, lamb, mutton....anything that goes BAA and has scary eyes.

I eventually settled to get onto my laptop around 2pm only to my horror have my laptop crash after logging onto the Uni network (coincidence I believe)  - so apologies for not getting results through earlier than I did & also a big sorry to Ali as I transposed her afternoon result which was a win.  A couple hours later after a trip to the Uni helpdesk I was back in business.

Today’s results are on the results page & I will update with tonight’s U14 & U12 results in the morning on the Noticeboard if Andy hasn’t already done so.  The games were still in progress when I left this evening – I am sure all the little darlings & their mentors are fast asleep by now which is where I am going….. more updates tomorrow.
