Fife Secondary Schools

March 26, 2003

The final for the first Fife Secondary Schools' chess tournament was held on Wednesday, 26 March at Kirkland High School and Community College, Methil. The final itself was between Inverkeithing 'A' and Bell Baxter High School with the third place playoff also being played at the same time between Inverkeithing 'B' and Kirkland 'A'. Congratulations goes to Bell Baxter High School (Cupar) who won the final 5-1 and are the inaugural champions of the Fife Secondary Schools' Chess Competition.

This, however, does not reflect the level of play which was of a very high standard indeed. Kirkland 'A' won the third place play-off 4-2 against Inverkeithing 'B', with the victory securing the bronze medal for the team.

The organizers of the tournament wish to thank Kirkland High School's rector, Mr Robertson, for allowing the finals to take place there and for taking the time to present the awards at the end.
