Richardson Cup 1936-1937
Edinburgh sprung a surprise in the opening round match by using former Scottish champion J.M.Aitken, recently at Oxford, on their top board opposite Fairhurst. Glasgow introduced to Richardson Cup play (Bd. 3) Comins Mansfield, the famous problem composer, whose work had recently brought him to Glasgow. As a result of their opening round loss, Glasgow were obliged to take part in the relegation tourney against the other first round losers in an attempt to secure a place in the competition the following season.
Bon Accord had to replay their opening round match against Paisley as the first match was tied.
The final was rather one-sided with Civil Service were three games down at the interval, one game resigned on move 12, another on move 13.
