Richardson Cup 1951-1952
Main Tournament
A historic year for the Richardson
Cup. For the first time ever, neither Glasgow nor Edinburgh appear in this the
44th Richardson Cup Final, spread over 54 years. It falls to Polytechnic CC
after years of scrabbling around in the relegation tournament to finally
win the Richardson Cup. The mighty Glasgow CC, holders and many times winners
of the tournament, suffer the ignominy of going to the relegation final before
eliminating newly promoted College, a team of Glasgow University Staff. Civil
Service make it past round 1 for the first time since winning the tournament in
1939. The tournament has a series of very close matches with only the
relegation final being decided by more than 2 points.
