Richardson Cup 1956-1957
Main Tournament
A year of major change for the
Richardson Cup. Firstly the number of teams is increased to 12, with both Spens
finalists promoted as an ongoing event. To increase the numbers, for the
inaugural season the losing Spens semi-finalists are also promoted. Both
perform abysmally and return whence they came.
The draw is changed to NOT
be pre-set at the start of the tournament but is drawn as each round's teams
are known. The previous years semifinalists are given byes into round 2 - but
bizarrely don't neccessarily avoid each other in the pairings from then on.
Polytechnic CC claim their second win of the Richardson Cup,
inflicting another final defeat on Bon Accord. Bohemians take huff and default
the semi-final replay after drawing with Bon-Accord and 'winning' on
elimination. But the SCA point out that the rules demand a replay. Bohemians
consider the travelling is too much - even to a neutral venue - for a second
game.
