Scottish Championship 1928

The 41st annual Congress of the Scottish Chess Association opened on Friday, 30 December 1927 at the Edinburgh Chess Club, 1 Alva Street.

The tournament was somewhat marred by a non-appearance and two retirals. Miss F. Hutchison Stirling intended to compete in the main championship, but withdrew. Her place was taken by Mrs Ritchie, but soon after the tournament started she and Serjeant retired, leaving only eight players.

McKee and James Gilchrist were Dr Macdonald's main rivals, former champions Mackenzie and Page being out of their best form.
