British Championship 1946
Held at University College, Nottingham
August 12-24
The 'unknown' Scot, Robert Forbes Combe, wins the first British championship to be held after the end of the 1939-45 war. This was the first time a Scottish-born player won the event. This feat would not be repeated until Jonathan Rowson won three years in succession, 2004-2006.
Further information about Combe can be seen here.
