Stan Beaton's Photo Archive

D.S. (Stan) Beaton (1934─2022) was a member of Cathcart Chess Club, Glasgow, from soon after its founding in 1953. He was also deeply involved with the Glasgow League, the organisation of many Glasgow congresses, and chess at a national level.

All images are courtesy of Stan's wife Eileen. Thanks are also due to Alistair Maxwell for his assistance; he also helped with identification, as did Ian Marks.

Many of the people in the photographs below have been named, but some have not. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Edmund (Ted ) Fitzjames, a valued chess organiser and administrator, also played the game. Here he has the white pieces in the foreground game. Others to be identified.

The other official might be J. Pursley, the only name/face of the organising committee that was unfamiliar to me (AMcG)
