Bernard or Berend Eekhout

31 July 1822, Groningen NED ─ 02 September 1898, Glasgow

Member and Hon. President of Glasgow Chess Club; club champion 1871.

Mr Eekhout, an iron merchant in Glasgow, was also a member of the Arlington Baths CC.

When the idea of the Scottish Chess Association was being promoted in 1883, Mr Eekhout was one of those who indicated his willingness to become a Life Member.

Note: His name is often shown as Eckhout.
