An old member of Falkirk CC, played for the club in the Richardson Cup, ex-Provost of Falkirk. Justice of the Peace.
Mr Gilchrist, a native of Polmont, served as a representative of the Camelon Ward on Falkirk Town Council for 26 years. In 1913 he was appointed Treasurer of the burgh, and six years later was elevated to the Magistracy. He became Provost of Falkirk in 1925, serving in that role for three years.
He was the father of
James Gilchrist.
