George Banks Hynd

1883, Dunfermline - 4 February 1956, South Australia

Member of the successful Townhill Chess Club (Fife) that won the Fife Chess Association championship 1907, 1908 and 1909.

Mr Hynd held the Fife County championship title from 1915-22.

He and his family emigrated to Australia in November 1927. He immediately showed his ability by being the runner-up in the 1928-29 South Australian championship.

He won the Adelaide CC championship many times, including 1935, 1939, 1941, 1942 and 1944.

Played in the 1935 Melbourne Centenary tournament.

Winner of the South Australian championship 1942 (had been runner-up four times).
