John R.K. Law

Died: 29 August 1919, at Glasgow, age 62.

John Richard Kidston Law. was born in the British colony of New Brunswick, which became part of Canada in 1867. He was the brother of A. Bonar Law.

Law would later move to Scotland (as his brother had done before him), becoming a successful businessman. At the time of his death he was Chairman of William Jacks & Co. of Glasgow, a well known iron merchant for whom Bonar Law had previously worked.

He also registered patents in Great Britain (No. 29,635) and the USA (No. 623,323) for improvements in the driving gear for cycles, motor cars and other vehicles.

He played for the West of Scotland v East of Scotland in the matches of 1896 and 1899.

Law was a member of the Helensburgh and Glasgow Chess Clubs. He played alongside his brother on the Helensburgh team that won the first Spens Cup in 1902.
