James Leith8 May 1851, Glasgow ─ 31 May 1922, Glasgow Associated with, and office bearer of, several Glasgow chess clubs, including Burns, Bohemian, Cabin, Central and Queen's Park. Played for the West of Scotland in matches against the East in 1892, 1894, 1896 and 1905. Winner of the Minor Tournament at the 1897 Scottish Chess Association Congress with a score of 6½/7. Mr Leith occasionally donated prizes to women's tournaments, examples being the 1897 women's international tournament in London, and the 1912 Scottish Women's Congress. James Leith edited a chess column in the Daily Record from May 16, 1896 to October 2, 1897. He died at his home at 90 Prince Albert Street, Glasgow. Alan McGowan added 18/11/2022
