Robert Gavin Thomson

A prolific composer of chess problems; his career spanned 60 years and included 32 prize-winning compositions.

The Chess Amateur, in reporting that Mr Thomson was the winner of their first Problem Tourney, mentioned that he learned chess in 1884. He soon developed an interest in problems, winning his first prize for solutions in 1886. At the time of writing in 1912, it was reported that he had produced upwards of 300 problems, including self-mates.
