F.D. Yates
Fred Dewhirst Yates, many times British Champion, visited Scotland on several occasions.
1921 Glasgow
Yates carried out a week's engagement at the Glasgow Chess Club. This included simultaneous exhibitions, consultation games and two lectures.
On Thursday 15 December he played 16 boards simultaneously, scoring 11 wins, 2 losses (A. Murray and H. Paulet), and 3 draws.
On Friday 23 December he played 17 boards simultaneously, winning 11, losing 3 (W. Gibson, HNJ Walsworth, DM MacIsaac), and drawing 3, one of these being against Mrs Young.
Four consultation games were played during the visit; three of them were unfinished, likely due to pressure of time, with Yates winning the only one completed against Borthwick, Martin and Walsworth.

1922 Edinburgh - Dundee - Glasgow
On Friday 17 November 1922 he was at Dundee. He conducted two consultation games in the afternoon, losing to Heath, Spankie and Forbes and drawing the other game.
In the evening he played 14 games simultaneously, scoring 11 wins, 2 losses (Thoms, Schwarz) and 1 draw. Here is the game Yates lost. According the Glasgow Herald, the opening was pre-arranged so that Heath could try 4. b4, a line that had been featured in an article by Heath in the November 1922 BCM.
