Some fairly brutal games in the fist round with tp paired against bottom. None of the Scots online today. Of the top seeds only Rosentalis having any difficulty that I can see but he may find a way to win it. Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - Alan Tate - 11-11-2015 Any reason why this is not at the top of the front page? Most of the wee cherubs will either quit or be adults in a few years. What happens then? I'll tell you what - throw the ones that remain into the adult chess world with next to no funding and continue the junior obsession ad nauseam. How about some recognition for those that have been there and done it? (If the website simply hasn't been updated, I apologise ) Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - David G Congalton - 11-11-2015 Cherubs removed from the top. Seniors given their rightful place. (For now). If you send me some nice pics from Iceland I'll post on the front page when I get back to civilisation. Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - Alastair White - 11-11-2015 After two rounds all four of our players areoff the mark. Roddy and Craig both have 2/2 and should be on the live boards tomorrow. But Roddy has a particularly tough task against English GM Keith Arkell. Jim had a good draw yesterday against a 2100+ player, while Douglas lost to an IM. Today Jim lost and Douglas drew. Thankfully they are not playing each other tomorrow. Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - Jonathan Livingstone - 11-11-2015 @Alastair have you not looked at the natural thermal waters and spa treatments on the tourney website? You could have came back with your leg like new. Alan Tate Wrote:Most of the wee cherubs will either quit or be adults in a few years. What happens then? @Alan didn't you quit the game for some time when younger? I don't know, but I heard that somewhere. I quit too for the record when a junior. I posted about this on here in the past but no one took any interest on the junior retention issue. Craig sneaked onto the live boards today no.12 board in the +65 - http://www.scacchisticatorinese.it/common/live_seniores_2015_p1/ Should be available until a hour or so before tomorrows play starts. Wonder if Keith Arkell got some ECF forum crowdfunding for this tourney trip, like he did when he won last years Euro Seniors title. I find that interesting Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - robin moore - 11-11-2015 From the registration info.. "Special conditions Free boarding for the top 3 finishers of last edition and the top 3 of every Senior Continental Championship 2015. " Keith finished 3rd in the 2015 Euro Seniors. Just kidding Jonathan, Sorry your point was not picked up on. Unfortunately I did leave chess as a junior. But I never played a Worlds or Euros, just the one team competition in France which I have very fond memories of. I think that if someone likes chess enough then they will play it, regardless of whether they are selected for these events. It seems that if you want juniors to keep playing they need to be of a certain level at certain stages. Anyway, this has all been discussed before, don't want to detract from the Seniors event. Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - Jim Webster - 12-11-2015 And there was me sitting here in sunny Acqui Terme thinking that the adage was "age before beauty". Blitz tournament is on this morning (Thursday) but none of us decided to take part. Good luck to the team in Iceland from us oldies in Italy. Re: World Seniors 2015 Italy 10-22 Nov - Jonathan Livingstone - 12-11-2015 Thanks Robin, I stand corrected! I hadn't realised one had took place for this year. It was the year before Keith Arkell won the Euro seniors +50 (2014), think it was in Porto. He beat Craig in that which is why I remember it, and it was that event which he got the crowdfunding support via ECF forum for the usual overheads. |
