Re: Dundee & Angus Allegro results - robin moore - 26-05-2012

As I have said before, I am rotten at allegro. Today I was the luckiest guy on the East coast.....

Round 1..Won fairly easily

Round 2..Totally lost against Gilbert Alomenu when he misses umpteen chances to finish me off (including a mate in two), I won in a king and pawn endgame.

Round 3..Behind again against David MacDonald, turned down a draw in level position, I sneaked a pawn in at the death to win.

Round 4...Level game against an ungraded English student from St.Andrews University, I desperately stopped a couple of his mates in one when he unexpectedly blundered a rook.

Round 5... In trouble, tried to make a move with my king, but couldn't move it legally anywhere. Offered my resignation. Ian Morris, my opponent refused it and called in the arbiter who said to play on, I fluked a mate about six moves later.

Round 6....Outplayed by Seigrun McGilchrist all game, I managed a perpetual with about a minute left on my clock.

Lucky white heather?

Robin.

Huh? You can't refuse a resignation and an Arbiter should not be asking you to play on. Did you mean you claimed a draw which makes more sense?

Re: Dundee & Angus Allegro results - robin moore - 27-05-2012

Ian Morris is a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He just plays chess to enjoy it like me and didn't want to win in any way he considered unfair,

Robin.

Re: Dundee & Angus Allegro results - Andy Howie - 27-05-2012

I get it now, you made an illegal move. Now I understand why the arbiter told you to play on. You have to make 3 of them in Allegro to lose the game!

If you look a wee bit down the page at the above link to the excellent Kilmarnock chess club website, you may notice yours truly in a game we simply had to win. Kitchen sink attack....
