Nice to get some good points on the scoreboard after facing a very strong team in the shape of Uzbekistan ( now 6th seeded 21st) in the first round. Outgraded on all boards against a Hungarian team this morning, a 2-2 draw is a decent result. 4-0 for us v Hong Kong this afternoon. 4-0 against anyone at this level is a great result but we will have much tougher opponents starting tomorrow with Canada 2. The most important aspect I feel is that every member of the squad is on the scoreboard. Nerves are calmed, morale is boosted. I was hoping that our zero fide rated smiling assassin from Castlehill chess club could prove to be a horrible surprise for some opponents. He is going along just fine. Re: U16 Olympiad Hungary - Mike Scott - 15-12-2014 Hi Robin Quote:a 2-2 drawCome come Robin that was a win. Knock off the bottom board and we won 2-1 on tie break. Always felt that we will always do better in such an event when the team spirit helps maintain focus and enthusiasm. I remember following the first team that went (Andrew, Ali, Shivan & Sam) and the way that Sam in particular would clip into worse/lost positions but would simply refuse to give up and would get the vital score as a result. Good luck! Re: U16 Olympiad Hungary - robin moore - 16-12-2014 Agreed Alex. Great efforts all round. I think the coverage the organisers are providing is really excellent. http://wyco2014.chess.hu/news/a-queen-t ... t/?cikk=52 If you scroll down this link you will come to an interview with Anna Milton's opponent today, 9 year old Daniel Dwyer from Ireland (rated 1777 !). Re: U16 Olympiad Hungary - hamish olson - 16-12-2014 Lovely game from Lennart today! Think Murad is going to win now but it looked very ropey. Re: U16 Olympiad Hungary - Hugh Brechin - 16-12-2014 Murad's game looked like one of mine, it was that shaky. Nice piece of grim hanging on. Lennart did very well. 2-2 with wins on the top 2? That's basically a win. We'll call it a win. Re: U16 Olympiad Hungary - andyburnett - 16-12-2014 I am enjoying following Scotland in this event It seems like a very good challenge for our kids. However, I noticed the Irish team line-up..... 28. Ireland (IRL / RtgAvg:1762, Captain: Higgins Paul / TB1: 5 / TB2: 10) Bo. Name Rtg FED 1 2 3 4 5 6 Pts. Games RtgAvg Rp 1 McGovern 1929 IRL 1 0 1 ½ 2.5 4 2109 2204 2 Mirza 1768 IRL 0 0 ½ 0 0.5 4 2068 1746 3 Higgins 1559 IRL 0 0 1 0 1.0 4 1830 1637 4 Keating 1575 IRL 0 1 1 1 3.0 4 1645 1838 5 Dwyer 1777 IRL 0 1 1 1 3.0 4 1580 1773 Any thoughts as to why Ireland have put their 2nd highest rated player on board 5? Trying to optimise the team placing? Medal chance? Since he ends up playing much weaker opposition than he otherwise would have on board 2 (av=1580 as opposed to 2068), does anyone think this is good? Bad? Discuss! |
