Re: European Seniors Team Championship - Sibenik 2014 - Alan Borwell - 09-04-2014

News about Peter is better after seeing doctor again yesterday. Today Scotland I will play against Belgium.

Scotland 2 had better day winning 4-0 against German railways opponents Stiftung with Alastair, Douglas and Ian all winning very nice games whilst my opponent decided not to play! In the final round we are paired with Finland 2 and hope to lift our final placing above our ranking. Closing ceremony this evening and we start our homeward journeys tomorrow.

Good news about Peter! And good luck perhaps especially today to Scotland 2, who do, indeed, have it in them to move much higher in the table!

By the way, check out the above link and (glowing) reference to Cebalo-Vasiukov, which I mentioned above. A game that will certainly do the rounds rapidly in the magazines and internet news sites!!

Many congratulations to the 1st team - 3 out of 4 players unbeaten must be some kind of record - and to Ian in the 2nd team winning his last 2 games!

Special commendation perhaps due to Phil Giulian for bronze medal score on board 2 (Scotland 1) ... sadly for the first time in years, however, no actual medals were awarded but the score stands!

Great Result! Well done, Phil! An inspiration to all of us (Golden?) Oldies!

As team captain of Scotland 2, we were rather disappointed with our final placing, but the event was stronger this year with age 50+ players eligible. Ian Marks scored 5.5/9 on bottom board and I managed 5/9 on board 2 although it should have been much better. In 7 games I had significant early advantages but finished them with 2 won, 4 drawn and I loss. Alastair battled well on Board 1 against tough opponents as did Douglas on third board. The organisation was reasonably good, although there were a number of things which could have been better.
