Wow, Ali looked busted the last time I looked at her game. Time was an issue and she is right back in it.

Re: European Youth - robin moore - 17-08-2012

Nice start from Murad!...Edit..and Ali too!

The first day at the Euroyouth is always a very tough one. We are nearly always in the lower half of the participants grade wise and accordingly we nearly always get drawn against opponents who are usually in excess of 300 points above us. How we approach this, deal with it and learn from it are very important for the rest of the tournament. I like to think that the first round is a message to everyone of the standard that is required at this pinnacle event. If everyone now focuses on achieving or exceeding the standard of their first round opponent for the rest of the tournament they will score points. The older players have been here before, they know what's required. The younger players can be initially overawed with the level of this event. Hugh and Alan know this and I am certain they will be trying everything to get them fully focused on the second day which is also tough. For everyone that hasn't been there, it's not easy for me to describe how stunning the playing hall and the organisation can be. We will make progress as this tournament carries on, I can assure you,

Robin.

David,

I don't think Fide players count on the "chalks" list. I have one or two guys that obviously felt sorry for me and resigned at places like the Czech Open and Benidorm but they don't appear in my list sadly,

Robin.

Any games played outside Scotland don't seem to show up. Doesn't need to be FIDE, just any rating system such as ECF. Any chance of having this changed in the future? From a purely egotistical point of view, it will make my own stats appear much less tragic too!

Re: European Youth - robin moore - 17-08-2012

I am also hoping that players underestimate Murad. They look down to their opponent for the day and hopefully say "huh, an ungraded Scottish guy, I have won already". Murad, before he went to the Euroyouth last year, simply expected to come back with the trophy. He learned a lot there and he has used it to improve his game dramatically. His attitude and approach, like the rest of the squad, is of the highest order,

Robin.

Re: European Youth - David G Congalton - 17-08-2012

Murad's opponent today has a FIDE grade based on a dozen games, in which he scored 7 1/2 points out of 12, so I would suggest he won't be far off the 1861 rating he carries.

I think today's result demonstrates that Murad is in good form and confident. The CS stats show that it was a fine performance today but that he's quite capable of taking on and beating anybody in the tournament.

What happened to Anna's game? I just checked back on Chessdom, and it's still frozen... My fingers are crossed that she held on. Right?
