Tromso Olympiad - Alastair White - 02-08-2014 Tried to watch the first round games today. At the time of posting, the open team are in the process of scoring a comfortable 4-0. Seems to be some technical glitches in the reporting of the women's games. At one stage it had the Scots losing heavily, but I didn't believe that for a moment. Sure enough, the score was later amended, although the games still were showing wrongly. Equally I don't believe some of the other results showing e.g. Australia losing 4-0 to Kenya or Denmark likewise to Palestine. There are many other clearly wrong results which also confused the video commentators. Altogether I found the website glitchy, unresponsive and difficult to navigate. I hope they get it sorted soon or it won't be much use. By the way, ex-Scot (now NZ) Helen Milligan played Tanya Sachdev (also well known to us!) today... Re: Tromso Olympiad - HLang - 02-08-2014 By the looks of it, the four boards in the women's match were inverted. 1. e4 d5 on board 3 is almost certainly Elaine with black on board 2, and so on. This would imply that Keti, Elaine and Ali have all won, while Carey is still playing (as per the official results). Re: Tromso Olympiad - Geoff Chandler - 03-08-2014 Hi Alastair, I'm in Norway, they are paying me loads of money to run the offical site for them. Don't worry about the 'iffy results' that is just me guessing what the result will be because I have been banned from the playing area for kibitizing the GM games. Honestly some of the bleak trash they play is so boring. It's like watching a mime artist acting watching paint dry. Thank God for Roddy McKay. Re: Tromso Olympiad - Hugh Brechin - 06-08-2014 Fun stuff from Andrew today. Nice-looking game, that - always fun when the good players take a punt. Re: Tromso Olympiad - George Neave - 09-08-2014 Local derby today versus Ireland. Nothing in it on paper. Should be interesting? Is Andrew Greet going to be Scotland's next GM? Re: Tromso Olympiad - Jonathan Livingstone - 09-08-2014 Is a third GM norm for IM Greet on the cards? Wouldn't he still have to hit 2500 ? I always wonder who has what norms... is there a list of our top players and what FM/IM/GM norms they have achieved towards getting the titles? Re: Tromso Olympiad - Douglas Bryson - 09-08-2014 Jonathan Livingstone Wrote:Is a third GM norm for IM Greet on the cards? Wouldn't he still have to hit 2500 ? There is a link to all the norms held by Scottish players on the page where we list FIDE ratings. http://www.chessscotland.com/grading/di ... stFide.php On right hand side click "Title norms" and it takes you through to the FIDE site. http://ratings.fide.com/title_norms.pht ... ountry=SCO http://ratings.fide.com/title_norms.pht ... ountry=SCO Re: Tromso Olympiad - George Neave - 10-08-2014 George Neave Wrote:Local derby today versus Ireland. Out of interest, what is Scotland's highest ever Olympiad? Re: Tromso Olympiad - Douglas Bryson - 11-08-2014 15th at Folkestone 1933 but maybe not what you were looking for. How about percentage of points available as a marker of success? Istanbul 2000 might be best of modern era. That would also be highest finish at 30th post 1992 onwards when you have the influx of all the ex-Soviet countries. http://www.olimpbase.org/teams/sco_tea.html |
