MacIsaac Tournament - Ianbrownlee - 14-09-2015

I am trying to resurrect the MacIsaac Tournament. and I would appreciate any constructive thoughts on this thread

Re: MacIsaac Tournament - P Griffin - 16-09-2015

Dont think it has a future as a comp for Club Champions.
how about making it the Spens/Richardson best board performance prize

I'm sure we'll get it resurrected in some form or another , I'm trying to make it more attractive as a tournament

Re: MacIsaac Tournament - David G Congalton - 20-09-2015

Okay, here goes and I shall be going into hiding from Andy Burnett as soon as I hit submit.

I'm currently enjoying the FIDE World Cup, knock out with one game as each colour then wind the clock up. That seems like a fun format.

Invite all the clubs in Scotland to participate by sending their club champion or top rated player as a substitute. To the MacIsaac not the World Cup.

Forget CS membership for a trial period of two years (sacrilege :- ). Demand that clubs take an interest, blackmail them if you have to. Tell them I'll come round and bore them all to death on a club night with all my tedious stories about nothing in particular.

Hold all the games in one place, all the rounds if you want.

FIDE rate the thing. Have the live boards there. Use a decent time control with increments so players have a chance to play a whole game and not get bumped out because they spent half an hour wondering whether to play 1.e4 or not.

Publish the draw two weeks in advance to give AB time to prepare and others time to do whatever it is they do as a chess alternative. Life or something, don't ask me, I haven't a clue what goes on outside the 64 squares.

Put up a prize that makes all the top players turn out. As the responsible CS Finance person, I would suggest a non-cash incentive and this is where I start running. Give the winner(s) a place on the next European Team event or a spot at the Olympiad. You could even offer them the place of non-playing team captain if you think that would be more beneficial to them and the team. Ask Rachel Riley to present the prizes, you might even get some "spectators" at the final.

Finally, if the adults aren't interested, throw it open to the kids and yes, give them the blinkin Olympiad spot as well, although Rachel Riley may well be wasted on them. Now back to watching repeats of 8 out of 10 cats does countdown.

Any plan involving Rachel Riley gets my vote Big Grin

I might ask her to present the prizes at the Scottish next year?! Just not sure if she's still talking to me :/

I gave up whippet racing a long time ago.
