Perth Congress 2024 - JMcNicoll - 06-05-2024

A 7 round event this time so make sure you are aware before you enter, the surprise on Friday night or Saturday morning may not be good.

We have another 4 places available as of 10:30 a.m. on the 23nd.

These are on a first come basis, we will not be telling anyone before the places open.

Are you sure you entered the right event? Check at the pairings sites and make sure you are in the one you want, not necessarily the one you entered.

I believe we will utilise 24 live boards during the event, so lots to look at if you are not playing. Probably broadcast on LiChess, link to follow sometime.

pairings and results are here , for Chess Results and here for Vega Results.

Hello, hope the tournament can be deemed a success and worth repeating. The only disappointing  thing viewing was the lack of a contest in the round 7 game in the Open. I was wondering when a Scottish Congress had a better pairing, in terms of the grades of the two players?

Hi Iain,

I agree that the lack of a Board 1 contest in Round 7 was disappointing and hopefully next year's regulations will allow for more of an actual game to give those watching on the live boards a bit more of a contest to watch.

Ruairidh you are asking to much. This has been going on for a long long time in chess. The white player probably made a decision to secure 2nd place The good aspect was that Andy Burnett knew early on that a win would give him equal 2nd and went on to achieve that It was also good that Walter Pearson famously called  this kind of thing out and Andy would have known that. I am still curios about when the last time two such highly rated players "clashed" in a Scottish Congress.
