Published accounts - January - Jim Webster - 08-01-2025 I see on the news page that a statement has been made which implied that council is not functioning and that the Management Board will discuss the accounts. Quote:In the absence of a functioning Council, Management Board will meet to discuss the best way to allow the membership to question and ultimately approve the accounts. This is incorrect. There is a functioning council, albeit a small number of members and the minimum of a council meeting must be held with minutes being taking and recorded. The AGM minutes published state Quote:AM I agree we cannot accept the accounts but we can pass the rest of the Management Board report The quote above clearly instructs the AGM to call and discuss at a Council meeting. Several members were voted onto council and only council, or AGM, can vote and approve these accounts. Is it the intention to allow members to raise questions regarding the accounts and published all queries and their replies before any vote can be made to allow all members the opportunity? RE: Published accounts - January - Ianbrownlee - 08-01-2025 Agree with Jim, there is a functioning council albeit outnumbered by the Management Board. There has to be a council meeting or SGM . Not just the accounts but the Directors reports were rejected as well. I agree with Jim, members must have the opportunity to question and revisit the accounts and reports. I am also unhappy with the AGM minutes as well and will query the minutes further shortly. RE: Published accounts - January - Andy Howie - 08-01-2025 No Jim and Ian, Management board will not be passing the accounts or the report. We do not mark our own homework. We have 4 options available to us to proceed. Management board will decide which of the 4 affords the membership the best option for questioning and approving the accounts. I am really not sure how you can take that statement as Management Board are going to approve the Accounts. That would be quite bizarre and totally improper. RE: Published accounts - January - Alex McFarlane - 08-01-2025 A main purpose of Council is to hold the Management Board to account. If the MB outnumbers Council then that duty could be problematic. In that sense, at least, Council is not functioning. I also fail to see what is wrong with the MB discussing the accounts in the first instance. At the same meeting it would be reasonable to discuss getting additional members of Council before having that body approve the outstanding business. There is at least one person who has indicated a desire to be on Council. Of course all meetings would be shorter and therefore more attractive if arguments did not contain inaccuracies which had to be refuted. It is correct that members have the right to question matters but all discussion should be based on accurate information and proven facts. In actual fact I did not say that the Management Board are going to approve the minutes, I actually said Quote:.... and that the Management Board will discuss the accounts what I did say was Quote:...... only council, or AGM, can vote and approve these accounts. Nowhere did I even suggest that Management Board were going to pass the accounts or the report. RE: Published accounts - January - Alex McFarlane - 09-01-2025 Jim, thank you for clarifying your original post. The quotes of relevant parts of sentences is helpful. Unfortunately, when a whole sentence is quoted, people can fail to appreciate that only part of it is actually being referenced. Your statement "This is incorrect" being the only thing on the next line tends to reinforce the feeling that you are saying that the whole line is incorrect. |
