Must admit that I had not looked at the time control, thought that it was the same as in previous years, 30 in 60 + 15 minutes. Since the increment is only 20 seconds, you do not have to record when you have less than 5 minutes. Is that correct? Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - robin moore - 18-04-2014 Andy, As it's an incremental time control, I thought you had to keep recording till the end of the game? Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Andy McCulloch - 18-04-2014 I believe that if you have less than 5 minutes left, you only have to record if the increment is 30 seconds or more. That is what I am trying to get confirmed. Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Phil Thomas - 18-04-2014 robin moore Wrote:Andy, If in doubt I find its always best to read the rules. I quote from the FIDE rule book in force up to 30th June 2014 8.4 If a player has less than five minutes left on his clock at some stage in a period and does not have additional time of 30 seconds or more added with each move, then for the remainder of the period he is not obliged to meet the requirements of Article 8.1. Immediately after one flag has fallen the player must update his scoresheet completely before moving a piece on the chessboard. So with 20 seconds increments the need to record disappears when remaining time falls below 5 minutes. What is not clear is what happens if a player stops recording and then gain enough time with 20 second increments that he has more than 5 minutes again. I haven't read the rule book that comes into force on the 1st of July- with some of the rule changes that we've heard about - anything could be in there. Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Ianbrownlee - 18-04-2014 I cant make it this year which has turned it to be a bit fortunate with the incremental time control part I just don't fancy playing with incremental time controls Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Alan Jelfs - 22-04-2014 With incremental time controls, I won't be taking advantage of the free tea/coffee Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Jim Johnston - 22-04-2014 Some more entries. Re: East Kilbride Open starts Thursday 24 April. - Ianbrownlee - 23-04-2014 never used them and digital clocks are devil spawn. The problem I have (ironically from me) is that unless I see the time controls being incremented from the start (clocks only show hours and minutes) how dow I know they are working |
