Jonathan, Sorry your point was not picked up on. Unfortunately I did leave chess as a junior. But I never played a Worlds or Euros, just the one team competition in France which I have very fond memories of.
I think that if someone likes chess enough then they will play it, regardless of whether they are selected for these events. It seems that if you want juniors to keep playing they need to be of a certain level at certain stages.
Anyway, this has all been discussed before, don't want to detract from the Seniors event.
