Ironically given the noticeboard discussion I had a delightful time at Inverness Congress despite not being welcome Big Grin.  Thanks for organising! (Combined a visit to Inverness grandparents with spectating at the chess tournament).

I understand that the reason the "open" is u2200 is because the time control is too quick for players over 2200 to play FIDE rated games as per the section "Rate of Play" at this link https://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?...ew=article

That is understandable as I remember there were problems with the venue wanting to serve breakfast whilst games were starting etc. and various things like that in the past.

I do wonder if there is a nice solution that allows everyone to participate whilst sticking with the same venue (I'd have loved to play). The key phrase in the regulations is "For a game to be rated". Could you not have an open where games between <2200 are FIDE rated and games where one or more players rated >2200 are not? That allows everyone to play - it's not an ideal solution but it seems a decent compromise unless I am missing something?
