Peter Doris

I met Peter when I first started playing congresses, around 1991. We were both starting out in the minors and often found ourselves sitting together at the board. We had some wonderful battles but whatever the result he was always a gentleman and went over the game with me. We became firm friends and looked forward to seeing each other at tournaments. I was a teacher and he a social worker when we first met. We often had great discussions about how to set the world to rights for the good of children everywhere. 
Peter was one of the kindest people I have known. He never raised his voice in anger or said a bad word about anyone. 
I'm happy to say that the last time I saw him he had the same welcoming grin and eagerly anticipating his game.
