Iain was a lovely person, very passionate about his chess.
I met Iain in 1992 when I started going to congresses. We both started in the Minor tournaments and, for a while, it seemed we were doomed to always having to battle it out for grading prizes. I did beat him a couple of times but he soon improved his strategic repertoire and left me penniless!
Although he could be a quiet man, he had a kind heart and was happiest analysing matches with players of all ages.
He has been taken far too soon and I will sorely miss him.
