I am delighted to announce that Prestwick 2013 has its first entry. As winner of the 2012 women's competition Ali Roy has accepted her place in the 2013 Open.
The 2013 congress will again feature the women's competition. This is open to all graded females, regardless of section. The winner will be determined by tournament performance against live grade as given on the CS grading database at the start of the tournament.
I am also extremely pleased that Ali and her family have graciously agreed to allowing Prestwick to name the trophy for the winner "The Ali Roy Trophy".
There are a number of reasons for naming the trophy so. Among them are –
Ali is a fantastic role model for all of our juniors.
She has not only reprsented her country and her county at International level but has done so for a number of years displaying great sportsmanship and has been an ambassador for Scottish junior chess at home and abroad.
She’s been the best female player in Ayrshire for a number of years.
Ali has been supportive of chess in Ayrshire, particpating in league and County championships on a regular basis.
She was the first winner of the competition.
