Think it's fair to say we all had a great time at Pardubice. It's a top tournament, professionally organised, impressive venue, excellent value for money.

If you get off to a good start in the section I play in (under 2000), you can normally avoid most of the rapidly improving central and eastern young European juniors that populate the 1550-1650 band.

If you get off to a rocky start (me this year), you can find yourself facing junior after junior that don't understand that they are meant to have given up and lain down against a clapped out "coffee house" enthusiastic player from Scotland who has a much higher grade (but is really a diddy player who has got lucky in the past).

I enjoyed every minute of it.

Thanks for the report. Looking at the tournament results section, am I right in thinking that the rating limit for your section was 2200 rather than 2000?

It always used to be U2000 but they changed it this year to U2100. I now notice there was a player at the top in the initial rankings graded 2190 but don't know why he was in the section.

One trap to avoid..

Do not get a taxi in Prague from the airport to the train station for Pardubice or vice versa. There is an airport express (AE) bus that leaves every fifteen minutes owned by the train company that costs £2 each way. Price of a taxi one way? £54. (We nearly fell into this one on the way home).
