FIDE Arena expanding
#1
At the AGM I tried to ask about what position CS should be taking regarding the FIDE Arena enterprise, but I received rather short shrift. At that time FIDE rating of Arena games as OTB play was already being discussed.

From the ECF we have the following interesting thread http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7895

Several points are raised, some of which CS previously discussed under the heading of 'Remote Participation'.

If players were reluctant to risk their CS grades in 'Remote Participation', and they were, how likely is it that they will risk their FIDE rating? Indeed, how will people regard FIDE ratings obtained through FOA play?

Hi Andy
As those who know me wellI am all for online tournaments, and indeed I find several scottish teams at chess.com and a whole load of players either scottish or claiming scottish kinship. I personally think this is an area which can be developed within Chess Scotland as I feel online chess is growing. However, like you I feel i am in the minority here. I dont buy any arguments that it is unworkable and I also think it can address the geographical issues that Scotland faces with inter-regional and remote participation. It is some as home director I am hoping to develop as well. perhaps if you joined the home director board we can work together on this
