It does appear that Scotland's last round 4-0 helped the USA win the Olympiad.
They were King Makers! Plan A for the 2018 Olympiad. Andy, drug those other four, tie them up and dump them in the hotel cellar. Give their passports to four look alike 2700+ GM's and bring them back. Let us know how you get on with this. Please ask Neil to get me Eugenio Torre's autograph. Neil will be OK with this, I ask him to get an autograph on every trip abroad. Geoff

Even better news! It was noticeable that Ali sat out the last three Rounds, having played in all previous matches. Assuming this did not reflect ill-health, then I’d say it demonstrated astute captaincy/management. Besides “pocketing” Ali’s excellent performance, it also gave Kathleen a clear opportunity, which she grasped with both hands. All told, good strategy and man-management.
Congratulations again, not only to the Team, but also to the “Brains” behind them.

Was just looking at http://chess-results.com/tnr232876.aspx ... 821&snr=69 and as I understand it: Ali Roy got a 2001 TPR which qualifies her for WCM title (a different title to CM) that requires a 2000 TPR, in which case she would have just made it. If that is correct, congrats to her.

That is what I was querying Robin, Kathleen is on that list but her TPR was 1800ish. Needs to be 2000+ to get that particular title?

Sorry, I did actually mean WCM.

Jonathan,
It looks as though you have to score 50% at the Olympiad providing you play a certain number of games (which appears to be 7). Can't track down the exact regulation.

robin moore Wrote:Jonathan, Am I understanding this correctly? There is a special rule, only for this particular women's title, only at Olympiad's, that if you score 50% or more regardless of your TPR or the opposition strength of opponent, you qualify. |
