Paul MacDonald, the International Junior Director and I are heading up to this event at the weekend. We know that there are many young players that perhaps feel a little geographically isolated chesswise in comparison to the central belt. However, you only have to look at the number of present junior international players from here to realise how important every area is. As I have said before, everyone from every area of the country is going to have a fair chance to receive any support possible that we can provide. No matter what age group or section you are playing in this weekend, we look forward to seeing you very much. Please feel free to approach us and talk about any junior chess topic. Any local clubs, schools etc please make sure everyone is aware of this important event.

A really worthwhile trip up North. On Friday night Paul and I went to Bon Accord chess club in Aberdeen. It's not until you are there and look around that you realise the strength they have at this club at adult and especially at junior level. We got a chance to see Murad dispatching our pal John Clifford in the club championship. Not a good night for John as afterwards he got to the bar first for a change. Terrific venue in Stonehaven town hall for the main event on the Saturday. A fair turnout for the junior events and an astonishingly strong turnout for the adult allegro, both adults and juniors. On the younger junior side, Euan Gray seems to have simply taken off under his new online coach Calum McQueen, we are very pleased with Euan's progress. Some other good junior performances too, with everything very well organised by Gerard Lobley and his enthusiastic team. Finally, a massive thank you to Sean and Judy Milton and family for looking after us so well at the weekend. It really was the Milton Hilton.
