Thanks for an excellent event David. Big Grin

GM Sulskis is an inspirational player and has a very likeable personality. It's also nice to see so many well mannered juniors and some excellent results. Murad getting a win against GM Sulskis in the simul shows true chess talent (not to mention that he scored 2.5 in the Open... remarkable). Some more strong performances from others that I noticed, and there are inevitably more than a few that I missed. My brother struggled to a draw against Monica Espinosa, who seems to be on a very steep improvement curve. I saw the ending of Alexander Bond's game against a 1650 and he converted excellently, showing real patience and compsure. Daniel Deary played excellently in our game and throughout the tournament as a whole, thouroughly deserving to take home a prize.

I'm not sure what kind of coaching some of these players are receiving, but it's sure working! Big Grin

Andrew,

Just some quick coaching info..

Murad Abdulla-Andrew Green

Daniel Deary-Clement Sreeves

There were many other notable junior performances, amongst them...

Carl Milton-Calum MacQueen

We also have a number of much younger players receiving regular coaching both online and at clubs, some of whom I am receiving very good reports about. If anyone is interested in receiving coaching support for their children please feel free to contact me or any one of the junior selectors,

Brendan O'Gorman, this years Major gold medalist, kindly took some photographs during his visit to Prestwick. Photos can be viewed here.

The congress website will be updated with 2012 stuff as soon as possible. I'm just off back down to Prestwick to clear up the tables and equipment from the weekend.

Thanks to Davie and the support team for a second excellent Prestwick Congress. There's something quite unique about playing chess and watching aircraft leave the tarmac at the same time. Great social side to this event as was the case last year and I enjoyed my games which were all very hard fought.

Of course (and more importantly) there are also non-chess reasons for remembering the event and I wish Paul all the best for a full and speedy recovery, he is genuinely one of the friendliest guys on the circuit that I've met. Get well soon sir.

Congress website updated with all results and photo's. For those who have won a prize but were unable to stay for the prize-giving cheques will be posted out this weekend.

Thanks to everyone who took part and all those involved in organising and officiating. I hope everybody enjoyed the weekend.

The provisional date for the 2013 congress is the late May Bank Holiday weekend, Friday May 24th to Sunday May 26th. I have already had preliminary discussions with the airport and the Parkstone Hotel and am awaiting official confirmation that the airport is available on the preferred dates. The Parkstone has been provisionally booked for the Saturday night when I hope to hold a similar event to this year.

Any titled players who fancy taking on 20 or so players next year at Prestwick, possibly outside if the weather is fine, please contact me as soon as possible. My details can be found here

I also intend to build on the Junior Saturday event we held this year and kids not ready for weekend events will have the opportunity to be part of the weekend.
