2025 - Hamilton Open and beyond
#1
Hi everybody,

The Hamilton Open entries have been coming in thick and fast and we are almost full. Perfect time to play some chess after Hogmanay festivities.

If you are too late to enter the Hamilton Open, not to worry. There are plenty of tournaments being planned in Scotland for the first half of next year.

Hamilton Open is now FULL (capping entry at 68) but we are taking names for a waiting list should there be any cancellations. Given that New Year celebrations are just before - there is always the possibility there may be one or two drop outs which may open the door for others....

Robert Murdoch and Ian Ferguson - could you fill in your FIDE ID application form and send it off please. You need one to play in the Hamilton Open as it is a FIDE-rated event. Contact Thor if you have any queries.

Following a review of the venue by Thor and the significant waiting list, we have taken the decision to offer places to an extra 6 entrants taking entry up to 74. Entry is now updated on chess-results.

Happy New Year everybody,

We have had some dropouts which has had allowed for several on the waiting list to enter. Those of you in this position have received an email from Thor.

I have updated the gradings on chess-results and everybody should have their up to date live Chess Scotland standardplay grading next to their name to figure out the seedings. If your grading is not correct, let me or Thor know.

We will use Baku accelerated pairings and the draw for Round 1 will be done around 1 hour before the start of the round.

Thanks to everybody who came to the Hamilton Open. It was a privilege to witness some great games over the last couple of days.

Feel free to let me know if there are any errors on chess-results. I will try and get the grading done over the next couple of days for Dougie.
