Time for the permutations and Combinations...

Division 1

Edinburgh 1 will win as long as they don't lose 5-0 to Dundee A. If they lose 4.5-0.5 it goes to tiebreaks.

Dundee A have to win 5-0 to win the league

Bottom is very interesting, Its 2 from EK A, Greenwood and Dundee B.

EK A and Greenwood play, the winners stay up and Dundee go down. If they tie, then Dundee need to win to put EK and Greenwood down.

Division 2

Forth Valley are promoted

Kilmarnock are playing Wandering Dragons. The winners will be promoted. If they draw, Kilmarnock will go up provided Giffnock don't win 5-0

Giffnock need to win 5-0 and hope Kilmarnock and Wandering Dragons draw.

Dunfermline are relegated.

They will be joined by either NAC or Edinburgh 2 who play each other. Winner stays up! (In the event of a draw, NAC are relegated)

Division 3

Thistles are promoted

Inverclyde go up if they match Stepps match result

Steps need to better Inverclydes match result and score 1.5 more board points.

Pentland Hills are relegated

Forth Valley are safe if they win. They need to match Lanarks match score to remain safe

Anyone catch this film on CH5? A gory gangster film with Chess! At least 2 scenes were set
in a Chess Club, bad guy Avi played by singer Andre [of Hey Ya fame] is a keen player and
challenges even badder guy Jason Statham. Avi plays the Nimzovitch -Larsen attack but he
doesn't know that Jason has been taught chess whilst in jail and is checkmated. About
4 games are featured all ending in mate, thus we have 2 good players who couldn't see the mate
coming.
I lost count of the body count but it was odd to see Tony from Coronation St as an enforcer
for Ray Liotta.
PS Its a complicated film best watched after a few drinks.

Hi Folks, I have been proud to be in charge of SNCL since 1997 - until today!!

We have an excellent relationship with our venue and the staff have always commented on how much they enjoy being with us, especially Karen who looks after us so well in our café. She frequently volunteers to come in when she's not officially on shift as she knows exactly what we like. She works very hard (on her own for 10+ hours) ensuring we have plenty water, food, rubbish bins and even helps us to gather up chess equipment and clear away all the rubbish etc you still insist on leaving behind on the tables and floor!

Today I was horrified to learn that some of our juniors (I do know who you are but I will not name and shame) thought it was acceptable to be cheeky to Karen and refuse to dispose of their rubbish. The rubbish did belong to them but even if it hadn't what was the harm in gathering it up and putting it into a bin? After their verbal outburst they ran away from her and disappeared out of the building.
I also discovered these same boys had earlier been swinging on the coat rack. When the venue manager asked them to stop he also received a cheeky outburst followed by remarks decrying how well the cleaners do their job.
I expect these boys to apologise when they next see the staff. There is no excuse for their bad manners.

There was also an incident where the manager and another member of staff came up to me and stated that there was someone drinking alcohol on the premises. They were naturally very angry about this and wanted me to take action. At first I stated they must be wrong as no one in SNCL would do such a thing. However, they pointed the gentleman out to me and they were correct. Luckily the management were willing to leave it, on this occasion, for me to deal with.
I take this opportunity to state to you all that under no circumstances will alcohol be permitted on SNCL premises. If you feel it is necessary to have a drink at lunchtime, make sure you are still sober or don't bother coming back to the venue (any venue we are in, not just the Glen). I will phone the police and have someone removed if necessary.
We do not have an alcoholic licence and we also have children and vulnerable adults present.

I'm sure the vast majority of SNCL members share my utter disappointment in the above people and understand my embarrassment in having to write a formal letter of apology to the venue.

I sincerely trust that this will be the first and last time I ever have to do so.

Dear all,

Yes2Chess 2015 is underway! Brought to you by Chess in Schools and Communities and Barclaycard, Yes2Chess is a unique, free chess server that allows children of all ages and abilities to play chess games against each other in a safe, online environment. Each child is randomly assigned a username distributed only by a chess tutor or school teacher, and the server has no player chat function. As the server is web based there is no special software to download and it's easy to use.

In addition to friendly games, schools can register up to 20 teams of five to take part in the Yes2Chess International Challenge, an online team tournament for 7-11 year olds. This is open to primary schools from the UK, USA, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 31st March 2015.

In July 2014 the best primary/elementary schools from the eight participating countries travelled to London to take part in the final of the inaugural Yes2Chess International Challenge, which was staged at Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time, in Hyde Park. The finalists also played in a simultaneous against the British Chess Champion GM David Howell, went on a London bus tour, attended a Parliamentary reception and visited Barclaycard’s Head Office for a ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’.

As part of 'Up a Snake and Down a Ladder', a week-long programme of events celebrating artist and writer Alasdair Gray's 80th birthday, we will be holding a light-hearted chess afternoon at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow on Wednesday 4th March from 1-4pm. Children and adults welcome, no charge.
