For those of a certain age,
the Scotrail Club 50 offer of a £17 return to/from anywhere in Scotland includes the period of the Oban Congress 15th to 17th November 2024.

I just need to sort out the hotel and entering the tournament now Smile

Cheers
Alan

Hi Folks,

Where has the summer gone?? Can't believe it's time for SNCL again.

Please tell your clubs and contact me by 16th October if you intend to enter teams.  Entry fee is £150 per team of five players.

Payment- I will accept cash on the day or cheques written out to Glynis Grant.   SNCL cheques are not accepted in the new account we have for SNCL.

If you wish to do a bank transfer then please email me and I will give you the details. I'm not comfortable with writing them here.

New teams always welcome

Anyone else unable to download the e-mag?
I'm logged in and clicking on the link, but I keep getting kicked back to my dashboard.

Or maybe I'm just an old guy who can't work computers...

  Giffnock and Clarkston CC
Posted by: Andy McCulloch - 12-09-2024, 05:42 PM - Forum: Club News - Replies (1)

At our final AGM the decision was taken to wind up the club.

Club membership had been in decline for a number of years, but the Covid lockdown was the final straw.  After the return to normality, we discovered that our venue was lost, and a significant number of members would not return.

It has proved impossible to secure a new location, in the Giffnock area, at an economic price.

For the last two seasons Cathcart have allowed Giffnock to play at their premises, and the club wishes to thank them for their generosity.

With little prospect of finding a new location, and further loss of members, the club was deemed non-viable.

As part of the disbursement of club assets it was decided to donate £500 to the Olympiad Go Fund Me.  This money has now been donated.  It is credited to me, but is in fact from Giffnock and Clarkston funds.

  ECF Government Funding
Posted by: Alex McFarlane - 07-09-2024, 05:52 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

The Times has reported that the ECF has lost the second half of its government funding.

This seems to me very little notice for what will be a £500,000 hole in its budget.

  EDI Focus Group
Posted by: ruairidhmckay - 04-09-2024, 07:34 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (2)

Hello all,

Over the last year, an EDI (equality, diversity & inclusion) focus group has been started (in tandem with another focus group seeking views from female chess participants) as part of Chess Scotland's goals to actively promote diversity and inclusion within the Scottish chess community.

One of the group's aims is to work on a process by which the representation and views of the wider Scottish chess community can be sought around topics including the nature of our chess community and how accepting, tolerant and respectful the community culture is of people with different views and from different backgrounds. There are many positive things that have been reflected on in the focus group but it would be helpful to know whether this is reflected more widely.

If you are interested in joining our work, it would be great to hear from you! Our next meeting is on the 16th of September. Please feel free to get in touch with me, Ruairidh McKay, Chess Scotland Administration Director (& currently Diversity Officer as well but it would be great to think about delegating this to somebody else at some point!). Either private message me on the forum or alternatively, my email address is in the Contacts section of the website.
