I
I have the option for running / resurrecting the Lanarkshire Congress as I provisionally have a low cost venue. If there is enough interest I will set it up, Please contact me guys if you have an interest. Other thing on my mind whether to have it as either a two day or three day event. Thor recently ran a very successful two day event recently at Hamilton. It would be interesting if there would be an interest in this.

I am looking forward to this tournament in February. I wonder how many of our top talented juniors will play in their busy schedules. In 1971, in the midst of the Fischer era and with Scotsman sponsorship , 50 schools entered. The last three Schools champions I know of are 2007 Robert Gordon's 2009 James Gillespie's and 2017 Bishopbriggs Academy. Was the tournament held in any years between 2018-2023 ?

Hi there,
Just to let everybody know that The Top Scot Series Final will take place on Saturday (13th Jan) starting at 10:30am at Phones Chess Club. Participants have qualified from one of the three qualifier events which were happening across the autumn. By the end of the day, we will have Top Scot champions in the Open section and Under 800 section.
For those of you who would like to watch some of our top juniors in action, we are planning to use live boards to ensure as many of the games as possible can be watched online. We will make the links available to you on the day.

Hi to everybody on the Chess Scotland Coaches List,
I have now sent an email to to all the email addresses who are connected to names on the Coaches List. I have received a significant number of responses indicating email addresses which are no longer operational.
If you are a coach on the list, please can you check that the email address and telephone number that is connected to your name on the list is working and operational. If not, please let me know what it should be updated to. You can of course choose for your email address and/or telephone number not to be displayed but it is helpful to have at the very least an email address which is available for others to be able to contact you as a Chess Scotland Coach.
Thanks,
Ruairidh

Hi there,
As part of my new role as Admin Director, one of the first things I will be doing is continuing the work that Ian started around bringing the list of Chess Scotland coaches on the website up to date. For years now, the list has only really been helpful in identifying who has been PVG'd for this purpose. Our aim is to have a more refined list on the website that is helpful for all in identifying who is actively doing coaching.
Over the next 4-6 weeks, I will be going through the list trying to make contact with everybody on it to help map out who is actively doing coaching and if so, what type of coaching. If you are a currently active coach, please do get in touch with me and let me know particularly as we don't have up to date email addresses/telephone numbers for everybody. My email address is in the Contacts section of the website.
Thanks in advance,
Ruairidh

There has been a lot on social media today about the FIDE GA and the abolition of terms for the President. I can confirm that I was one of those who voted against it.
Thought I would let the members know given what is being said.

The Management Board of Chess Scotland are delighted to announce the appointment of Ruairidh McKay as Admin Director.
Work will begin shortly to identify a candidate for Diversity and Equalities Officer to replace Ruairidh in that role.
It is the intention to bring the other candidates who noted and interest into the fold in some capacity in the near future.
We wish Ruairidh the very best in his new role and look forward to working closely with him
