Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - WBuchanan - 26-01-2016 In the worlds strongest open Keti Arakhamia-Grant, Steve Mannion and Alan Tate have Round 1 opponents who are in the world elite. http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.com/l ... asters.htm 3.0 start I think - catch up with work tomorrow! Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - andyburnett - 26-01-2016 Have been watching the Live feed for the past hour and just realised it is our own Alan Tate who's back is to the camera Quite scary that our top players are facing opposition 400 points higher! Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - Alan Tate - 27-01-2016 Well that was predictable... Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - andyburnett - 27-01-2016 I meant that some of our best players have spent years trying to improve...and then when we walk onto the world stage we are light years behind :/ I just find it crazy that, for example, Carlsen is 700 points higher-rated than me, and I am only 400 points higher-rated than my first adult rating from about 30 years ago - despite working on the game reasonably hard! :-o Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - Alan Tate - 27-01-2016 I know what you meant! My comment was referring to the results. Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - andyburnett - 27-01-2016 Alan Tate Wrote:I know what you meant! Carlsen is only 640 points higher than you.... Re: Scots v the world in Gibraltar today - andyburnett - 29-01-2016 A good win for Keti yesterday against her World Championship nemesis GM Pia Cramling from Sweden. Alan Tate also won - against Tim Harding - to get back on track hopefully. Steve Mannion lost to another very strong player, GM Valentina Gunina, and will hope to break free from the yo-yo effect at some point.
