Ruairidh you are asking to much. This has been going on for a long long time in chess. The white player probably made a decision to secure 2nd place The good aspect was that Andy Burnett knew early on that a win would give him equal 2nd and went on to achieve that It was also good that Walter Pearson famously called this kind of thing out and Andy would have known that. I am still curios about when the last time two such highly rated players "clashed" in a Scottish Congress.
