I had a look earlier in the year and saw this: Entry fee £200. Ouch! No wonder Pardubice is popular and the British is not.

Yes £200 is more of a donation! Scots have good record U21 U18 etc though - and there are some free places. It might help if there were qualifiers to fund some places - Plus all the Glorney and Gilbert teams should be playing (or rather encouraged to play) as that's were the chances lie. Accommodation and travel costs could be reduced if a team of 16+ were to go.
Trouble is I don't see it changing any time soon.

Was it £200 in Edinburgh in 2003? That was the second highest turnout ever I think.

Or you could play in Vegas for $1,000 ($2,000 if you leave it to the last minute), and you have to provide your own board and clock!

This is from the game Arkell - Ward. Surprised the rook endgame expert missed his chance here. White to play and win?

Re6 was my first reaction and maybe what you play when moving instantly and short of time? With time, though, it seems Re2 to put the rook behind the pawn is too quick enough. I guess these "rules" exist for a reason.
Nice one though.

Yes Re2 to cut the king, protect from checks and possible Rd2 behind the pawn. It's amazing how much easier it is when you are not playing..
