I have been following the World Youth event in Durban. There are ten live games from each section broadcast every round. I have been impressed by the standard of play of very young agegroups, namely the girls U8 section. Yes, they do make the odd howler but there are some cracking aggressive games.

Mongolia have six players in total at this event, two of whom are third and seventh in the girls U8 section and a boy who is fourth in the U8 boys section.

Robin,
I was speaking with Stewart Reuben who is the Sector Arbiter for the U-8s. He has been impressed with the level of play too.

He told me of one game which he (circa 2200) thought was a dead draw. Indeed it was agreed such. The 'losing' player then showed the opponent how the game could have been won.

We went round a game reserve with one of the Mongolian kids yesterday - a totally normal kid for his age.

The three Mongolian U8's all won again yesterday. Good to see players from "smaller" nations doing so well but they clearly are benefitting from organised funded support in schools.
