Kanishka Bhatia and Chrysoula-Paraskevi “Chrysa” Mitraka will be flying the Scottish saltire as the European Women’s Chess Championship gets underway in Rhodes, Greece.
The youthful duo are among 136 players in what is traditionally a very strong tournament. The 2025 version boasts 7GMs, 22 WGMs, 24 Ims, 20 WIMs, 5FMs, 25 WFMs, 1 CM and 7 WCMs.
Kanishka gained the WCM title at last year’s Budapest Olympiad and will be hoping to build on that experience while Chrysa will be looking to follow in her footsteps with a strong showing.
Top seed for the event is Georgian GM Nino Batsiashvili while local hopes rest on Greek IM Stavroula Tsolakidou.
