July 7, 2003: Congratulations to Steven Brown of Glasgow Montrose for winning the Candidates Grand Prix and to the utterly dominant George Murphy in the Major section. The winners of the Challengers and Minor sections were decided at the CS Rapidplay on Sunday July 6, the final event of the 2003 GP season.
The Challengers scores were unchanged and congratulations go to Jannic Konarski who narrowly held off Dave Gillespie. Scores were also unchanged in the Minor section but a late drama unfolded. If Jim Johnston had won his final Rapidplay game he would defeat David Potts on tie break. Jim lost the final game so congratulations to David Potts. Ironically Jim's last round defeat was at the hands of George Murphy, the Major winner!
The top 3 in each section win a prize - these will be presented shortly, possibly at the British Championships.

The way CS membership renewal operates means that a person is not eliminated from the membership database immediately when their membership expires. They get an invitation to renew and then a reminder to renew. These renewal notices are tied into delivery of Scottish Chess magazine. This effectively means there will be a few months before we can officially say that all the potentially eligible Grand Prix prizewinners are marked correctly in bold in the leaderboards below.
April 3: Membership for Grand Prix now finalised - only Bold records below are eligible for prizes.
