Scottish Boys' Champion 1955.
played in the Scottish Championships of 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1961. In 1957, 1958 and 1961, he finished 2nd behind Dr J.M. Aitken each time.
represented Scotland in matches against England in 1958 and 1962.
Glorney Cup team member 1955, 1956 and 1957 - scoring 100% with 8/8.
moved to England 1963.
active in the Metropolitan Chess Club, London, and Middlesex County chess.
played in several British Championships - 1956, 1957, 1958.
has continued to play club and tournament chess over the years, including returning to Edinburgh for events.
joint British Seniors' Champion 2003 and 2008.
