Following on from last year's Chess Wars "Apocalypse", Lenzie Chess Academy host "Retribution" this Saturday 29th Nov in Bishopbriggs Academy.
All details and entry form are on the CS calendar. Alternatively just email me with a note of interest harry.marron@ntlworld.com All entry fees will be paid out in PRIZEMONEY and certificates of participation presented to all competitors.
3 sections to compete in, half point bye available in 1st 2 rounds and I'm using published grades, so ideal if you are a fast improver this year.

Membership Secretary - vacancy |

Having completed five years' service as Membership Secretary I am stepping down with effect from 31 December. As previously advised in the recent news panel, applications should be submitted to the Executive Director, andy@akhowie.co.uk.
I have always been very conscious that our members deserve the best quality of service that I can supply. It is for members to decide how well or badly I have fared but I will say that I have developed the role in a number of small ways in order to enhance the service provided.
Over my years as Executive Director then Membership Secretary I served alongside three Presidents. Probably the main area where I felt I managed to contribute to progress being achieved was Child Protection. In 2003, a paper was produced by Alex McFarlane, Steve Mannion Senior and myself. It established the ongoing basis for Chess Scotland meeting its obligations under the then Child Protection Scheme. In more recent years, I assisted Steve Mannion Senior in the migration across to the PVG scheme. It is reassuring that Chess Scotland's PVG policies and processes have proved to be robust and have withstood the various challenges submitted to the authorities.
Membership Secretary has been an enjoyable role but it is now time for me to move on and implement other plans.

Looking for Sponsorship! |

Hi folks,
As some of you may know I have recently been chasing the FM title by playing a lot of tournaments in the Czech and Slovak Republics. I am within touching distance of this now and am looking to push on and gain the IM title.
I have funded the last 6 months of chess myself, but am now looking for sponsorship to continue the quest!
If anyone out there knows of individuals/companies who might see value in sponsoring a media-savvy, kilted Scotsman either on a 'long-term' or 'individual tournament' basis, please contact me via
abburnett@hotmail.com
Regards,
Andy Burnett
P.S. For the avoidance of doubt/questions of integrity/etc. I will not be using the Chess Scotland magazine to further my personal goals in this respect (although if/when I gain a title I might treat you all to a wee report!)

SNCL have you lost this? |

Hi Folks,
Someone left an A5 sized pad at SNCL today. It is used to lean the score sheet on.
If it is yours I have it in my car. Please ask for it the next time you see me -- Oban, Lothians or SNCL
Everything seemed to go very well today. I hope you all enjoyed the day.
Have a lovely Christmas and New Year
GG
