Not really sure this is my place, there are many who knew him a lot better than me...
An announcement was made at Edinburgh that Peter had sadly passed away recently, a long-standing member of Corstorphine CC as well as Edinburgh League Councils. Possibly best known for his work in taking chess into the prison in Edinburgh.
Perhaps a Corstorphine CC member can furnish us with more details, but i believe a service is to be held at Warriston Crematorium this coming Saturday.

  Stewart Haslinger May 21st 2016
Posted by: Arthur Mulholland - 03-04-2016, 07:01 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (4)

We've got a coaching day organised for 21st May.

http://www.chessscotland.com/news/?p=5775

Stewart Haslinger is an English Grandmaster with a current FIDE rating 2526. His Wikipedia profile is here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_Haslinger#Biography">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_H ... #Biography</a><!-- m -->

Stewart will provide a coaching day, with a view to a follow up in the future if the first one is successful. The event will take place at the Bridie Library in Glasgow University Union on Saturday 21st May 2016. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.guu.co.uk/#!bridie-library/c1un4">http://www.guu.co.uk/#!bridie-library/c1un4</a><!-- m -->

The venue is located here and is easily reached by bus and underground. There is also parking available on nearby Kelvin Way.

The event will run from 10:30 am until 4 pm. There will be a stop for lunch (not included in the price) . Please arrive prompt (for 10:15) as we have to vacate the venue at 4pm and can’t afford any delay. If you wish to follow the coaching session with a chess set then we will cater for you to bring your own set and board.

The charge for the event is 30 pounds.

The session will be split into three sections

- Endgame theory
- Making critical decisions
- Strategy

If we have the time we will also have a question and answer section. To make the coaching worthwhile numbers will be restricted so if planning to attend please let me know as soon as possible. We plan to take payment up front. We’ll announce arrangements for this when you sign up.

If we can make this a success then Stewart will provide future sessions.

If interested please contact either Ian Brownlee (<!-- e --><a href="mailto:ian.brownlee@systemsit.co.uk">ian.brownlee@systemsit.co.uk</a><!-- e -->)

  SNCL Final
Posted by: Andy Howie - 27-03-2016, 06:58 PM - Forum: League Announcements - Replies (4)

Sorry for the confusion at the AGM, I had an optical migraine and could not see properly which was causing me problems

Division 1
Champions - Edinburgh 1
2nd - Dundee City A

Relegated East Kilbride A and IPCC

Division 2
Champions - Thistles
2nd - Giffnock by the most exhausting tie break process ever

Giffnock and Inverclyde finished on the same match points, 10.

Tie Break 1 - Check board points - Both on 20.5

Tie Break 2 - Game between the two teams - Finished a draw

Tie Break 3 - Least number of Defaults lost / drawn - Nether side had a default

Tie Break 4 - Bottom board Elimination - Both teams finished on the same match points and game points

Tie Break 5 - Sonneborn Berger - Finally we have a winner. Giffnock win this tiebreak by a point.

Hence why the AGM was slightly late. I had a lot of calculation to do. Not going to have this issue next season as I am using TMS (Tournament Management Software)

Relegated Edinburgh 2 and Cumbernauld

Division 3
Champions - Dumfries & District
Promoted - CSBOS1

Relegated Oban and Corstorphine

Division 4
Champions - Bon Accord
Promoted - Wandering Dragons B

If we get enough teams for Div 5 next season, the following teams will be in div 5 based on their place this year

Mussleburgh, Hidden Dragons, Lenzie, Zebras

SNCL last day of the season!!
Posted by: Glynis Grant - 22-03-2016, 12:57 AM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (2)

Sunday 27th March is the last round of SNCL. Yes I know it is Easter Day but bring the family and let them roll their eggs in the Glen. There is also a fantastic swing park to play in for ages 3 to 80+

PLEASE remember to bring the trophies with you.

After the AGM (short as poss please) the Team Lightning will be run by Ken Stewart. Please stay and enjoy the event, very low entry fee!!

Look forward to seeing you all,

Stop using <!-- e --><a href="mailto:glynis@ggrant1.fsnet.co.uk">glynis@ggrant1.fsnet.co.uk</a><!-- e --> I no longer use that email. I will tell you my new one at SNCL

A reminder that the Team Lightning is once again on the final day of the SNCL, after the AGM - Sunday 27 March. Entry form on the calendar section.
Please let me know of as many entries as possible in advance to assist planning (but pay entry fees at the event). Although I can probably take entries at the event, they should be a small proportion of the whole.
I shall probably be at the venue from about 2pm. Please try to see me as soon as possible after that to confirm entry numbers and pay. Thanks.
